Glimmer: A Translucent Bedside Lamp Inspired by Chinese Lanterns

An Exquisite Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Glimmer stands out from other bedside lamps with its unique design and materials. The lamp's elegant contours highlight the translucent nature of the eggshell porcelain, creating a mesmerizing visual experience between light and porcelain. The designers paid meticulous attention to every detail of Glimmer. The lamp features a leather handle with a superb hand feel, a curved beech base, and a ceramic lampshade. The combination of these elements perfectly embodies the fusion of form and function, showcasing the best of modern oriental aesthetics.

Creating Glimmer was no easy task. The lampshade is made of porcelain, a traditional Chinese material known for its delicate nature. However, average porcelain could not meet the process requirements of this lamp. After numerous tests and failures, the designers settled on using eggshell porcelain from Jingdezhen, the capital of porcelain. This choice resulted in the perfect effect they were aiming for, both in terms of material strength and illumination.

The Glimmer bedside lamp measures 155mm in width, 155mm in depth, and 360mm in height. Its compact size makes it suitable for any bedside table or small space, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.

The Glimmer project began in Hangzhou in April 2014 and was completed in August 2017. It was exhibited at The 22nd China International Furniture Expo in October 2016, where it garnered attention and admiration for its unique design and craftsmanship.

Glimmer is a testament to the designers' research on the modern interpretation of traditional Chinese crafts. By combining traditional ceramic technology with modern processing techniques, they have successfully showcased the possibilities of traditional materials in contemporary design. This not only enhances the appreciation of traditional craftsmanship but also contributes to the advancement of traditional industries.

The Glimmer bedside lamp has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2019.
